In partnership with Patrick LAROCHE we are offering you the opportunity to stay at La Maison Riante, combined with a summer workshop in figure drawing or one of our summer courses.
Patrick graduated from the school of BEAUX ARTS in Toulouse in 1984 specializing in etching; the same year he received the drawing “Grand Prix” from the city of Toulouse.
At the end of 1984, he went to Japan. First for a year to Tokyo Geidaï (art school) then he established himself as an illustrator/designer. He spent 12 years in total in Japan doing many projects : children’s books, posters, illustrations for magazines and a lot of advertising. After that he spent the next ten years between New-York and London during which time he started to go back to his own creative work and in particular, traditional drawing. In London, he met Dulip Sur who is a teacher at the Royal College of Art and followed his art class. In New-York, he spent a lot of time drawing at the Art Student League before returning to France in 2005. Since then he has lived in this beautiful area called the Lot, where he organizes drawing classes and regular exhibitions.
Patrick is native French, but is also English speaking.

FIGURE DRAWING

The figure drawing workshop is held each Saturday in Limogne en Quercy (2nd and 4th Saturday of the month) or Rieupeyroux (1st and 3rd Saturday of the month). The workshop starts at 10 am and ends at 4.30 pm.
During the first hour short sessions are held, 2 to 3 minutes each. At the end of the morning, there are poses of 15 minutes. The lunch break from midday to 2:00 pm is a shared meal where every participant brings a dish to share (“auberge Espagnole”). In the afternoon there are poses of 25 minutes, allowing you to make more detailed drawings.
The workshop is limited to 12 people, so early reservation for each session is recommended. The workshop is open to everyone, beginners or more experienced ones.

SUMMER COURSES
The workshops are given in Patricks’ studio – a 10 minute walk from La Masion Riante – and will take place from end of June until the start of September. The spacious atelier is set in an exceptional environment and the views on the slopes of the national park “Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy” are enough to make your visit worthwhile. The summer courses are over 4 days, from Monday to Thursday, from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm.

The Printing Press
An introduction and / or improvement in 2 techniques using a press: linocut and monotype, affordable to all.
Two simple and very accessible methods, even for those with hardly any experience of drawing. The possibilities and discoveries you will discover working the printing press will surprise you!

Sketches
Being in the heart of the national park “Parc Naturel des Causses du Quercy”, the surrounding villages of the Lot valley and the limestone plains (“Causses”) will inspire you to create your sketches: old French wash houses, churches, markets, coffee terraces, various viewpoints, all set in a preserved landscape. Over the 4 mornings, we walk with our sketchbooks to collect your sketches of the environment and authentic atmospheres to transcribe in watercolor, pastel or wash techniques while learning about perspective and creating personal images …

Each course is limited to 5 participants.

Figure drawing, one day of 5 hours: 25 € + 10 € for the model. Twelve participants maximum.
Summer courses, 4 half days (20 hours): 170 € , materials included. Five participants maximum.
